In 2004 the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the National Ready Mix Concrete Association established a cooperative agreement to pursue funding for research and education in concrete materials research. Such cooperation is to the mutual benefit of both organizations. NRMCA brings the industry expertise and involvement, while UMD enhances such partnership with its research and education reputation and expertise.
The first successful result of this partnership is in place with the award of a two year research grant from the Department of Energy CBRC program on ?New technology Based Approach to Advance Higher Volume Fly Ash Concrete with Acceptable Performance.? The picture shows Dr. Haghani, Chairman of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering shaking Maryland State Senator Miller?s hand in an event celebrating this partnership.
