The Clark School of Engineering and UMD Division of Research hosted Mpact Week (Thursday, Oct. 16- Wednesday, Oct. 22) to showcase the ongoing cutting edge research on the topic of Disaster Resilience at the University of Maryland’s Clark School of Engineering. During the weeklong event, Dr. Elise Miller-Hooks presented her work on "Multi-Hazard Resilience Quantification for Civil Infrastructure Systems”. Meanwhile, Deputy Director Mr. Mark Franz attended at panel discussion titled, “Disaster Resilience: The Intersection of Research and Policy” on Capitol Hill. The event hosted (in photo from left to right) Dr. Gerald Galloway from the UMD Department of Civil Engineering, Alice Chamberlayne Hill, the Senior Advisor for Preparedness and Resilience at the White House Security Council, Dr. Amr Elnashai, Dean at the Pennsylvania State University, David Miller, FEMA’s Associate Administrator for the Federal Insurance and Mitigation Administration (FIMA), and Todd Richardson, the Associate Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Office of Policy Development for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, to discuss how research on Disaster Resilience may be used to affect emergency preparedness policy and recovery operations.
