In a news release Alabama State University announced Lt. Col. Dawn M. Davis, an 18 year veteran in the Air Force, as the new commander of ASU's ROTC Detachment 019. 

Davis, thesecond female to command Detachment 019, is the senior Air Force officer oncampus and holds dual responsibilities as detachment commander and head of the Department of Aerospace Studies. She is responsible for recruiting, training, motivating and educating Air Force officer candidates.

Davis received a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from the University of Maryland in 1988 and a Master of Science degree in management from Troy State University. She earned her commission through the Air Force Officer Training School (OTS) in 1993. As a civil engineer officer, she has led military and civilian professionals as a flight commander and as an interim squadron commander in a variety of assignments at base and Major Command levels and during several contingency operations in support of the global war on terror.
