Professor Ahmet H. Aydilek, a member of the University of Maryland’s (UMD) civil and environmental engineering faculty, has received board certification in geotechnical engineering from the Academy of Geo-Professionals (AGP), which is part of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).

The AGP cited Aydilek’s  “advanced expertise and experience, education, and attainment of a specialized body of knowledge in geotechnical engineering” as it announced his new credentials.

It is the highest post-license certification available to geotechnical engineering professionals, with a certification program that is accredited by the Council of Engineering & Scientific Specialty Boards.

A member of the UMD civil and environmental engineering faculty since 2001, Aydilek conducts research on sustainable infrastructure design with an emphasis on geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering. Specific research interests include flow through porous geomedia, remediation of contaminated soil and groundwater, and reuse of industrial by-products in geotechnical construction.

Dr. Aydilek, a Fellow of ASCE,  is a recipient of ASCE’s Walter Huber Research Prize, among other honors and distinctions.
